I took a break from studying and projects today. Gen-X - a local very cool video/ comic/anime store is going out of business, and was selling everything cheap (40% off normal stuff, rental movies and DVDs for $5-$15).

I picked up the following:

Tapes

  • Dirty Pair Volumes 1-5
  • Forbidden Planet
  • Andromedia Strain
  • Life is Beautiful
  • Twilight of the Cockroaches
  • Starman: Atomic Rulers of the World
  • Bring Me The Head of Geraldo Rivera

    DVD

  • Flash Gordon (the whole series)
  • My Science Project
  • The Doom Generation

Forbidden planet! Yes! I want a copy! And you got life is beautiful, that's a great one too. Oh, and I know your geekish tendencies make you want to refer to it as the "andromedia" strain, but I really think there isn't such a thing as androgynous media. ;-)

Yep - I grabbed some good ones.

I just wish I had gotten there sooner - everything was very picked over (in the morning, people were buying videos by the garbage bag full). It shows how good of a selection they had that I was able to find these late in the afternoon :-)

    I know I made a typo with Andromeda - I think I'll leave it there :-)

I just thought I'd mention, that there is an article on the passing of Gen-X at: http://www.statenews.com/editions/041300/p1_business.html

I's been many months, and the building Gen-X was in is still empty. If the story I heard was true, and they did shut down because of an increase in their rent, their landlord really appears to have screwed themself.

Man, if that's true... then those SOBs committed a heinous crime!

    *sniff*

    I miss GEN-X...

It's been over a year, and the building where Gen-X used to be is still empty. Their sign is a little more beat up, but still there.

21st Century is trying to fill the niche, but I still miss the amazing weird video selection that Gen-X had...

When I was last in Lansing, a couple of days ago, it looked like the old Gen-X building was being torn down.

I didn't have time to take a close look, but I'm pretty sure of what I think I saw.

I was in Lansing Last weekend - the building was converted into a sub shop, joining the cluster of places to eat already located across the street.

As of June 14, 2002 the building that used to house Gen-X now houses a Jimmy John's sub shop, and a pizza place of some kind.
