Well, I just got an e-mail that Ive been expecting for a while, but not really looking
forward to.
8393 days
ago, Im scheduled to lose the Unix account Ive had for the past 7 years or so.
hungerf3@cse.msu.edu has been my identity for most of the time Iv e been on the net - I receive most
of my e-mail via that address. The web pages I have on that server get many hits, and some pages
are linked to from all over the place. Now Im forced to make a lot of dead links all over the place.
Oh well.
Ill always remember arctic and pacific fondly - I have a lot of good memories of the CPS program
At Michigan State.
Some fond memories include:
Writing scripts to finger the dialin servers to see if someone was online, and what they were doing
Watching the security cameras for the labs to see how full they were
doing Strange things with sun
video cameras in the middle of the night.
I''ll write more as I remember more - right now I need to sleep...

Your computing account in the CSE department is scheduled to be deleted soon.
Until then (around May 7, 2001), you will be able to access your account
normally. After then however, your account will vanish from the CSE systems
completely, and WILL NOT be backed up for retrieval at a future date.
Therefore, if you have any files you wish to keep, you MUST retrieve them
before the account is deleted. Once the account is deleted, it cannot be
recreated to the state in which it was prior to the deletion. If you once
again become eligible for a CSE account, an entirely new one -- with none of
your previously deleted files -- will be created for you.
Note: this account deletion also affects what used to be called ''research lab'
'
accounts; any files you own anywhere in the CSE department are affected.
Your account is being deleted because:
1. You are not currently a declared CSE, CPE, or LBS/CPS major.
2. and, You are not enrolled in a 200+ level CSE class for the coming term
(including summer term!).
3. and, You are not a CSE TA or grader for the coming term.
4. and, You do not have special dispensation from a CSE faculty member to
retain your research-oriented account. (Please have your faculty
'sponsor' contact us directly if this is not the case)
If none of the above reasons apply to you, please mail manager@cse
immediately, explaining your situation. If you undertake no action to
preserve your account, it will be deleted automatically as scheduled, and it
will *not* be available for recovery at a later date.
This is the *only* notice you will receive before your account is deleted.
Please see http://www.cse.msu.edu/facility/access/ for additional
information.
