Video Test
(Marching Band)

Well, I finally have time to play with some toys I bought a while ago.
Over the past couple of months I bought a Laptop and a decent Digital Camcorder as part of the process of bringing my hobby of streaming digital video into a modern age.
For some reason I found it easier to make decent looking video clips when I was working with a 320x240 12 bit, 12 frame per second signal instead of the new super 720x480 24 bit, 30 frame per second signal I'm working with now.
I see a few main causes:

  • As I had less data to work with, it was easier to compress
  • I couldn't tell how much detail I was throwing away
  • I wasn't watching the bitrate I was using, and was pushing a LOT of bits

Then all I cared about was taking my crappy source, and generating a file that would look decent to a couple of my high bandwidth friends.
Now I'm trying to do something that looks good, and has no load time.
Anyway, here's a video clip of the marching band at the last home game this year.
Clicking on the image should deliver a stream at the right bitrate for your connection.
Underneath it are links to high(er) quality non-streaming versions.
